What is Diabetes: Diabetes Type 2

Type 2 Diabetes is becoming more common due to the increasing obesity rates and lack of exercise. This form of diabetes usually occurs in adulthood but is starting to occur more often in adolescents. With Type 2 Diabetes the pancreas does not make enough insulin to maintain healthy glucose (sugar) levels and many patients are unaware that they have this disease. Type 2 Diabetes may damage blood vessels and inhibit the body’s ability to fight infections. People with this condition may also suffer from various foot problems. Type 2 Diabetes is the leading cause of amputation. This condition can be regulated with insulin therapy and proper nutrition and exercise.
